100 Days — Writing

Behind Aligned

100 Days of Writing and Doodling started strong, then went off a cliff like Thelma and Louise. This is not a new problem. I drive off the cliff, land it — albeit in pieces — reassemble, stop for an espresso, and carry on.

100 Days of Writing and Doodling started off strong and then went off a cliff like Thelma and Louise. This is not a new challenge. It's one I contend with regularly: I get caught up in my head about a bunch of things, think I've lost the plot, only to find it again, but differently.

So, where am I at? Behind, as you can see.

In a fit of artistic integrity, I'm not allowing myself to back-post anything. I didn't say it would be 100 in a row. Or did I? If I miss a day do I need to start over? Maybe, we'll see, maybe this is all I do now.

Thankfully, the venerable Jennifer MacLean suggested I make my doodles writing-adjacent. Like a political cartoon, or a Sergio Aragonés marginal drawing. This is perfect.

Oh, and I also decided to bounce between traditional and digital media. I have an iPad Pro, Apple Pencil, and both Procreate and Clip Studio Paint as well as an art desk full of pencils, inks, paint, Copics, erasers, and paper. I got this.

So that is what I will do, with a small caveat: I need to learn how to draw cats. More than what I did for last year's cat festival, and beyond Jenn's book An Ode To Myself. I need to deliberately do cat character design work in the background, and as I feel more confident about those characters (you guessed it, Charlie & Mabel), I'll start sharing them.
